I don’t know many people who like Monday’s. We can argue about if the week really starts on Sunday or Monday. However, it is safe to say that most people often perceive Monday as the start of the week due to work. Monday’s are like that nagging person or thing you got rid of, yet, when it returns you clench your teeth saying, “Ugh, your back?”
Years ago, I was in a stage in my life that yielded the need to binge motivational content. One of the people that stuck to me like glue was E.T the Hip Hop Preacher. Digesting him convicted my spirit, made me revaluate my thoughts, actions, insecurities, lack of consistency and discipline at the time. Thank God It’s Monday is one of his mantras I was introduced to. Hearing him say it with such enthusiasm was very strange at first, but it provoked me. I started asking myself, “Why not thank God it’s Monday?” What did Monday ever do to us anyway?
Friday is the closing. A demarkation of the end of a week. A release from whatever plagued us. A transition into often the much needed weekend. Monday however, is just as much of a mood.
Reasons to say Thank God Its Monday
- You are alive! We can start with the basics. Another day to have life is always something to celebrate. Not everyone makes it through the weekend. Count your blessings.
- It’s the beginning. We say, ‘Happy hump day’ or ‘Thank God It’s Friday” celebrating the middle of the week and the end. The beginning deserves that same energy.
- An opportunity to restart. The previous week could have been alright, hell, or wonderful. The weekend could have lifted you up or put you down. But Monday, is a great day to restart your energy. Guide peace, joy, or enthusiasm into your week as you face the day with gusto.
- Money money money. Most people are returning to work if they have not worked through the weekend. Whether you love your job or are eager to move on, where you are is still a blessing. The opportunity to clock in and fund your life is amazing.
- Purpose. I often feel like Monday is a good a time as any to be intentional about creating space, pursuing goals, implementing new habits, and increasing productivity. Sometimes we plan and get ready on the weekend. But Monday is implementation day!
No matter what your Sunday ritual is, before you sleep take a moment to say thank you and profess looking forward to tomorrow. Enter Monday with that energy and see if your life doesn’t change. By the time you wake, hit the floor, and are bouncing with that Thank God It’s Monday energy you will be moving different.
