One thing I’ve become really good at lately is respecting my capacity.
This is a milestone for me because most of my life, overextending myself was my baseline. It is normal for me to burn myself out. Giving may last to people was nothing. But, it is not sustainable
Many people, especially women who serve, lead, nurture, and hold things together live in perpetual survival mode. I have observed women who loose themselves outside of what they can do for others or become physically sick from the exhaustion of the load they carry. I mourn for them. Instead of enjoying the fruits of their labor, they suffer from a life labored.
Rest is resistance.
Saying “no” is self-care.
Exiting stage left can save your sanity.
Respecting your capacity can literally save your life.
Let’s be honest, there is nothing and no one who will not move on if anything happens to you. Time stops for no one. So why not be intentional about living your fullest, healthiest, most peaceful life?
When I give empowerment talks, it’s often to motivate people to do.
But lately, I’m realizing that it’s also powerful — not to do.
That’s why now, the days I say things like: “I don’t have the capacity.” With ease. Without apology.
It’s shocking to some. Especially when I follow it with a soft, smiling shrug and say, “I’m just a girl.” 😌
I remember being at an event where I was showcasing my business. I had to haul heavy props and inventory — the kind of lift I’m used to managing on my own. But that day, a very prestigious man offered to help me. The kind of man people usually swarm to serve.
And in that moment, I almost rejected the help out of habit. I almost said, “No, I’ve got it.”
But I paused.
Because I’m learning.
I’m rewiring.
And I’m choosing to believe that being a girl doesn’t make me weak — it makes me human.
And humans, even powerful ones, deserve help, softness, and room to breathe.
