1. Black Girl Magic September
Let us take several moments to bask in the majesticness of our September 2018 magazine stand. I don’t know if this is a collective editors effort or destinies aligning but I am nothing short of proud and giddy. The diversification of the black woman narrative is something I am very passionate about. We fight so hard to see our voices within the pages. However, this September everyone gets to see us on the covers.
Be sure to purchase copies so we can continue to destroy the narrative that black women as leads, in the center, on covers does not sell.
2. Lebron James Opens a School
Basketball superstar, Lebron James, shows the world again that athletes should not just, “Shut up and dribble,” as Laura Ingraham suggested. No matter what team you root for, it is easy to love Lebron’s passion for his community. In conjunction with the Akron Public Schools and his foundation, the world was introduced to the I Promise School.
The I Promise School offers students:
- Free tuition
- Free uniforms
- Free breakfast, lunch and snacks
- Free transportation within 2 miles
- A free bicycle and helmet
- Access to a food pantry for their family
- Job placement and GEDs for parents of students
- Guaranteed tuition for all graduates to the University of Akron
3. Save Money on CashApp
Cash App is for more than just exchanging money. If you have not already, get the Cash Card, a debit card from Cash App that is a direct link to the funds stored in the application. Cash App has what they call, ‘boost’. Users can choose a boost from Chipotle, Panera Bread, and etc that will give a percentage off purchases. All you have to do is choose a boost to turn on. After that, make a purchase at your chosen destination using the Cash Card as method of payment. Cash App will only charge you the amount subtract percentage of the boost.
i.e. If you spend $12 at Chipotle, Cash App offers 15% off boost. You swipe the Cash Card to pay $12 successfully, however, only $10.20 leaves your account.
Happy Saving!!!
4. The Word
My latest meditation with my faith has me doing the daily devotional, Erasing Hell by Francis Chan. I read a passage in the devotional that is in sync with one of the aspects of faith I have been meditating on lately; my relationship with the word of God.
Francis Chan asks readers if we really behave and live life like believers of what God said untainted by our own personal stuff.
“A view of God that takes Him at His word and doesn’t try to make Him fit our own moral standards and human sentimentality. A view of God that believes what He says, even when it doesn’t make perfect sense to us.” – Francis Chan
I’ve witnessed conversations about the relevance of God and His word. Particularly, discussions about whether God makes mistakes or has changed His mind about parts of His word. For some reason, lately when I hear, think, or contemplate on this topic I hear God saying, “I said what I said.”
5. FBI’s Most Wanted
I watch a lot of FBI shows, from Quantico and Blacklist to White Collar. The shows are all quite different causing me to wonder what is the most accurate portrayal of what the FBI does and what kind of criminals they chase.
Naturally I asked myself, “Who is on the FBI’s Most Wanted List?” Click the link to find out.
6. New Show on the Radar
I saw the trailer for this show, God Friended Me, and I am very much looking forward to it. Turns out it is coming to our televisions September 30, 2018. Check it out.
